This course is designed for Federal employees who participate in their organization's operational and program decision-making processes and need a basic understanding on the various risk management, principles, tools, techniques and assessments to facilitate risk-based decisions.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the basic risk management principles, tools, and techniques

  • Understand the basic components of risk to include situational assessment, probability and impact

  • Make well- informed, risk trade-off decisions with an appreciation for the organization's funding constraints

  • Use the basic tenants of Earned Value Management to mitigate the risk of exceeding project budget, scope and schedule constraints

  • Use simple probability models to assess programmatic outcomes (desirable and un-desirable

  • Apply the basic premise of risk management to both standardized and ad-hoc business models

Prerequisites:

  • Supervisory discretion - Intermediate level

  • Recommend two years of previous work experience
